Summary:  Function under general direction of CNE and work collaborative with EMS staff to provide high quality pre-hospital emergency care.  Supervise and direct all activities with EMS Department and oversee inspection and preventative maintenance for all equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assess the medical needs of the sick or injured patient and provides immediate care, including but not limited to medical duties performed in the ER, Med/Surg and pre-hospital admission ambulance runs.  Care may include providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), opening a patient's airway so they can breathe, and providing ventilation assistance. Other medical treatment includes bandaging wounds, stabilizing broken bones, controlling bleeding, administering oxygen, and treating shock.  EMTs also assist in childbirth and help people with mental disorders in need of medical assistance.
  • Provide guidance, training, educational opportunities for staff.  Maintain all equipment in great working order.
  • Perform administrative duties including but not limited to: writing reports, shift change instructions, getting coverage for call in's and vacations, conduct periodic informational meetings with staff, participate in staff evaluations, demonstrate conflict resolution, problem-solving, team building, and leadership skills.  Perform other duties that are assigned.
  • Supervise, evaluate, discipline, motivate, provide direction and develop staff via training and educational opportunities.
  • Submit periodic reports on operations, benchmarks, goal attainment and staffing requirements to CEO/CNE  and others and statistical reposts to IDPH as required
  • Initiate all job postings for openings for vacant or new positions in department.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with staff to share needed information updates and obtain employee participation and feedback
  • Develop and post work schedule for employees, adjust as needed and edit and submit timesheets.  Review all leave requests and approve or disapprove.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews with applicants in conjunction with Human Resources and CNE and make selection decision
  • Ensure new employees and students receive proper orientation to position and department
  • Conduct performance reviews and administer discipline in unbiased and objective manner
  • Demonstrate initiative and ownership in performance of duties and be self-starter
  • Pass competency and proficiency testing as required by department or hospital including computer based testing.
  • Adapt to changing work assignments and comfortable serving diverse community
  • Keep knowledge and skills current via education activities, in-services and other training

Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid Illinois EMT-Paramedic license.  Must be certified in CPR, ACLS and PALs.  Must have current driver's license in state of residence and a clean driving record.

Education: High School Diploma, College Degree preferred

Experience:  Paramedic with 5+ years of EMS experience preferred. 2+ years documented managerial experience preferred.
