  Patient Financial Counselor/Account Rep - FT

Patient Financial Counselor/Account Rep   Summary: Role holds the responsibility for the portion of the revenue cycle involving patient accounts in a self-pay and self-pay after insurance. This responsibility includes tasks such as producing patient statements, providing financial assistance counseling, referring accounts to collections and compiling the yearly Medicare bad debt spreadsheet. Follows up on insurance billing and ensures proper payment is received on patient accounts and processed and handled in a timely manner. Reports to: Patient Financial Services Manager Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities including but not limited to: 1) Assist patients/guarantor with payment arrangements. 2) Process patient account inquiries (received in person, telephone, mail, internet, etc) 3) Prepare/review patient statements to be sent to third party vendor for mailing. 4) Refer delinquent accounts to collection agency. 5) Facilitate the financial assistance program and process all applications for approval on a monthly basis. 6) Keep current with changes in legislations regarding fair patient billing, charity care programs and uninsured discounts, etc. 7) Ensure patient accounts are in cdorrect financial classes 8) Demonstrate initiative to improve efficiency/effectiveness of business operations. 9) Comply with all hospital policies and procedures as applicable for position including employee handbook, department and administrative policies and procedures, goals and objectives for self, department and performance improvement, safety compliance program, HIPPAA and confidentiality, accreditation and survey standards and infection control. 10) Adapt to changing work assignments and comfortable serving diverse community 11) Funtion well under stressful conditions involving other departments, workload, etc 12) Keep knowledge and skills current via education activities, in-services and other training. 13) Perform related duties as needed including assisting others with their work. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in related field preferred.
